The history of rock and roll is full of twists and turns and above all, there are situations that have to happen at the exact moment, when the music is made with emotion and strength. Then, it is the ideal moment to build the history as it should. This happened with Pistols At Dawn. Their story begins when Adam Jaffe (drums), Devin White (guitar), Billy Sullivan (bass) and the late musician Mike Buffa (guitar), started the band as a project in 2015, even working with producer Jeff Tomei (Smashing Pumpkins, Matchbox 20), however, because of many issues, it was not the time. The fire rekindled in 2019 when Adam, Devin and Billy, joined forces with Tommy Richardson (guitar) and Chris Hodges (vocalist, who alternately, by the way, has composed music for films, including Baywatch and the current box office hit Top Gun: Maverick).
It is there where everything aligned and began the path that has led them to an intense work that will have an important chapter in August, when through the legendary label Megaforce Records/MRI Entertainment, their first album will be released and what better name than Ascension. Even in spite of the times with the pandemic, perhaps along with other things, that have been driving forces for the band, who have redoubled their efforts tremendously, gaining the attention of Silvia Massey, the legendary GRAMMY award winning producer and engineer who has worked with Johnny Cash, Tool, System Of A Down, Prince and R.E.M., just to name a few artists pf her awe inspiring list of credits. Their sound took shape in a first EP titled Nocturnal Youth (produced by Tomei), where their energetic sound, which fuses modern attitude with the arena rock sound of the past, achieved excellent listener numbers on digital platforms. The band comments that Nocturnal Youth is an album that offers light, although it is a difficult and dark subject that touches. For them, it is important to give it a positive approach. The critics let themselves come with fanfare, highlighting that they are a credible band, of great musical quality and above all, a band that is needed in the rock music scene of this era.
In the newest single titled The Truth, the Atlanta band (now a four-piece) starts showing a dynamic sound where immediately the first thing that stands out is the contrast of influences and styles, there is a tendency towards the melodic, but also, it is as if the energy is totally controlled, which allows the song to be fluid and being heard and understood. There are no tricks or experimentation, it is modern rock and roll with a bridge where finally that containment of energy that there is a given moment, finally explodes. The song is accompanied by a video where the vocalist is inside a psychiatric hospital that represents the confrontation with the truth, his truth.
